Committee Reports

Fundraising – Carlo

  • Fundraiser for a Catholic Church $100 per person for up to 150 people. Butler passed appetizers and Dinner starts at 7:04 exactly. This fundraiser is on April 26th. It is a 50/50 split with the church.
  • Working on another fundraiser with Jenny Peterson, formally from Helping Paws, now with Minnesota Link. This group works with special needs children and young adults by encouraging their relationship with  animals to help them work through their challenges. They have a place in Medina and Carlo will go and meet with them for more information. This fundraiser will probably happen in the fall.
  • Another fundraiser possibly in the works is with a dog rescue group for about 300 people at $50 a person. This one will be held at a church.
  • So far there are possibly 3 fundraisers this year April 26th, mid September, and October.

Reminder: these are the first fundraisers that the Chapter has had since the Regional Conference in 2006. The coffers are getting really low.

Membership – Sharon

Sharon talks about the ACF when out in the Community. Needs more packets to hand to people. Jim Lund has taken a new job the enable him to also talk to people in the Community.

Certification –

May 5th Practical Certification at Hennepin Technical College is full. The deadline to sign up is April 7th. There will be a walk thru for this practical on April 14th at Hennepin Tech. This will be a dry run for the Practical. You are encouraged to bring questions and there will be a tour of the facility. This was done at MCTC and the participants do a better job with the Practical and there is a higher passing rate.  The next Practical Certification is on June 23rd at Hennepin Technical College in Brooklyn Park.

Competition – Frankie Jedneak

Nothing – Frankie sent stuff in to National. Waiting to hear back.

PR – Mike M

Mike wanted to know if we wanted to release the information in the FoodService News about April’s Fundraiser. Carlo will contact Father Walneck to get the number for Mike. Also Mike had questions about what kind of artwork we wanted for the Scholorship Tree. We will still work on that.

Chef and Child – Chris Struzl and Mark Good

  • Started sign up for Kid’s Café for next year. They know that it is hard to forecast for next year but sign up anyway. We would like if filled up by June so grab a date. If you cannot make it you can switch with someone else just call Chris or Mark to let them know. Kid’s Café is on the third Tuesday of the month. Rino Baglio, Executive Chef from Pazzaluna and Eric Simpson, Executive Chef from Golden Valley Country Club did Kid’s Café this month. Kid’s look forward to it every month. The time commitment is from 3-7 and there are other volunteers. Always team up with someone who has done it before if you have not. If a non-ACF person wants to volunteer call Chef Dan for details. It is important to make the menu kid friendly and source your own food. Call Chef Dan a week before to let him know what the menu is and if you will need anything special. This year’s UpShow donated all the leftover food to the Kid’s Café. Chef Dan was blown away by the generosity.
  • Kid’s café had a Recognition Receptions for those that volunteer. It was held at AI. There will be another one April 8th. Go to the perspectives website or contact Chris Struzl will find out information.
  • LEARNING BEGINS at BREAKFAST – next fall American Health Association will do an exercise portion of the presentation and will also do the education for next month. Learning Begins at Breakfast will be in big demand this year. There will be training sessions where you get instructions and receive non-perishables. Cub and General Mills are on board this year too. Schools will find us. Jim suggested using the training for Learning Begins at Breakfast to be an Educational at meeting.
  • Coming up in April 21st Frankie, Mark, Chris will present to a Conference FCLA Hero Food Competition at the Ramada in Brooklyn Park. There was a great response last year. They will talk to the students about the food service industry and the ACF. Chris Struzl said that we should get the kids hearing about ACF while they are in high school. Name recognition is important to our future growth. Frankie wants order Sizzle about 100 or more give to state lady 1 week before to put in packets. This years motto is M.A.D.E. = “making a difference everywhere”

By Laws & Elections – Coming in August we will be taking names for board member nominees. Talk with your peers; nominate someone, because being on the Board counts as points towards Certification (15 points a year). 4 Board openings are: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Sergeant at Arms.

AAC – nothing from MN 3 people from Midwest will be inducted soon.

RU ACF –  Where is the Chapter Achievement Award from this year? We think Steve V or Justin G has it. We think it was on display at the UpShow. Is it at AI?

Old Business – ProStart Carlo/Chris Dwyer/Tom Berg. This year there are teams from Hopkins and Elk River. Elk River practiced at the Doubletree with Chris and Hopkins practiced at Hennepin Tech with Carlo. They have been practicing night and day and have improved their skill remarkably. March 26th is the competition in Marshall. Along with Hopkins and Elk River, Sauk Rapids will also be attending.

  • Vegas – National Conference is in the Culinary Review, you can register online. Some seminars are listed. Another great reason to be on the board is that 2 people from the Board can go to National  with the entrance fees paid by the Chapter.

New Business – Brunch in Duluth with the Duluth Chapter. They need Volunteers. Jim and Kathy will be going to help out. Word is Carlo is going. Call Paul Madsen if you can help or if you need info.

  • Carlo – People Serving People Home Game for the Homeless and Employees day off. We will wait to hear from PSP as of now no one has contacted up concerning these two events. This year if we are asked to do them we will not be supplying the food. They have plenty avenues to get food.
